GENERAL OVERVIEW

In accord with IYAUM'S mission to study, teach, disseminate and promote the teachings of BKS Iyengar and provide support to our membership - students, certified teachers, and teachers in training. IYAUM has established a fund to provide scholarships and grants. All applicants must be current members of IYAUM. There are three categories of financial support:

 

STUDY SCHOLARSHIPS

Assistance is available to our membership for:

• A series of classes with an Iyengar teacher in our region ($100)

• Workshops sponsored by IYAUM or by an Iyengar teacher/studio in our region

• Selected workshops and training provided through IYNAUS, RIMYI, or Bellur

• CIYT-led teacher training and continuing education opportunities

 

Criteria for Assistance: Recipients of scholarships must be current members who are recommended by a currently certified Iyengar teacher. You may request partial or full scholarships for workshops and events. Your identifying information will be removed from your application prior to its review by the scholarship committee.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH GRANTS

IYAUM seeks community outreach initiatives that support diversity and provide service to community members who do not have access to yoga teachers and studios.

This grant is meant to financially support the costs associated with such efforts, including but not limited to:

 

• Teacher compensation

• Yoga props

• Venue rental

• Technical hardware/software

 

IYAUM offers grants twice yearly, in spring (April 30) and Fall (October 30), ranging from $500-$1000.

EMERGENCY GRANTS

IYAUM wishes to support our region's Iyengar Yoga studios, centers, and teachers who are experiencing financial distress due to the COVID-19 pandemic or any other emergency Monies granted are to be used to sustain the teachings of Iyengar Yoga. These grants may be applied for on an as-needed basis. There is no deadline to apply.
